  3.  Files on the Disk:
  4. --------------------

  6.           There are three program files on the distribution diskette:               
  7. INSTALL.BAT, README.1ST and FUND.OVR. The program is self-installing and
  8. you will find the following files on your disk:
  9.  
  10.            FUNDS.EXE and FUNDS.OVR  is the actual program,
  11.            FUNDS.CFG is the configuration file for the program   
  12.            *.ACT and  *.STK  are the data files for different accounts 
  13.            SHARE.LOG  is the log of all transactions
  14.            SHARE.ARC contains archived transactions and is formed when needed 
  15.            SALES.LOG listing of "closed" positions and is formed when needed
  16.            MANUAL.DOC  is the instruction manual
  17.            LICENSE.DOC is the license agreement

  21.    Introduction

  24.      The program FundInvestor automates the access to many families of mutual
  25. funds using automated service telephones. The program permits a speedy, access to
  26. these funds: obtaining individual quotations and balances including the last
  27. purchase/sale/exchange of shares in your account. An additional feature is the
  28. automated transfer of funds from your bank to some groups of funds, or between
  29. funds in certain groups. The program also calculates the actual return on investment
  30. in these funds, taking into account dividends and the change in share price.

  32.      A separate section of the program permits compilation of all investments in
  33. Treasury and Corporate bonds. The actual yield of these bonds is calculated and
  34. payment dates listed. If an interest payment is due within 30 days, then this entry is
  35. highlighted for your convenience.

  37.      Another section is devoted to direct investments in the stock market. The
  38. program permits direct down-loading of stock quotations from Prodigy(R) Service.
  39. There is also a section for recording your investments in bank accounts, such as
  40. Certificates of Deposit, or Money Market accounts.

  42.      The program maintains a permanent record of all transactions, calculates the
  43. actual yield on investment for individual accounts as well as provides the "purchase
  44. date and price" and "selling date and price" for all "closed positions", according to
  45. IRS rule FIFO (ie. "First in, first out").  The program also calculates the actual yield
  46. to maturity and duration of bonds.

  49.      Installation
  50. -----------------------

  52. NOTE: If you obtained the program by telephone from a Bulletin Board, CompuServe,
  53. or other similar source - please de-compress ("unzip") it first onto a floppy
  54. diskette. The installation program will not work if the compressed file is already
  55. on the hard disk!

  57.            To install the FUNDS on a hard disk, put the distribution diskette
  58. into Drive A:,  or B: , and type the following:
  59.                          INSTALL
  60. and press <ENTER>.
  61. This will initiate the installation program that will copy the program to your
  62. hard disk.  During the installation, you will be given the opportunity to select
  63. the disk and the sub directory where you wish the program to reside.  In order to
  64. operate correctly, the program MUST be installed in this way.
  65. During the course of the program, you will be frequently asked questions and
  66. requested to answer using the following convention:
  67.     (Y/N)  - means you must press either  Y   or  N   followed by <ENTER>
  68.     [Y]/N  - means that answer  Y  is default and pressing <ENTER> is equivalent
  69.              to answering  Y

  75. The program FUNDS automates communication with many families of mutual
  76. funds. However, at this time The author did not have complete information
  77. about some of them and therefore not all the procedures are fully operational.

  98. by US mail and I will include these in the next version. Such information
  99. should be written in the form like:

  103. the above happens to be the starting sequence for Fidelity group of funds.
